Once lightly tethered by time and care,
Cords pull and stretch apart.
Threads crack unknowingly,
Unraveling bit by bit.
Lines of friendships relax,
Slipping slowly away.
Loosening the ties that bind,
Setting the soul adrift.
It is easy to feel this way. Then, you remember what Dinah Craik said in one of her books and smile.
"We must meet things as they are, without perplexing ourselves about what they might have been; for if we believe in an overruling Providence at all, there can be no such possibility as 'might have been'."
I believe this is true no matter what one believes.
Every person exists for a reason. To be a friend is one of the best. My friends are and will always be cherished. When the feelings seem to be showing looser ties, let them loosen. This is what friendship is. To allow others to be the persons they need to be and to support them as they grow in whatever direction they may need. Especially, if it happens to be away.
