I often use the original Toll House cookie recipe. I do add cinnamon, but that is about it. I use this recipe because of my 3rd Dad. Don Wakefield. He was one of the sons of Ruth Wakefield, from the Toll House Inn in Massachusetts. I never got to meet her, but I do remember her. The cookies I made tonight used a fancier chocolate chip with the Toll House logo on it. Mint filled chocolate chips. As I prepared to use make the cookies, I noticed something. It was the exact same recipe as the normal ordinary chocolate chip cookie recipe!
How could this work? Making fancy cookies with a normal recipe? Well, I followed the directions (I didn’t add cinnamon this time!) for the most part. I did add some mini chocolate chips, which helped fill in the spaces left by the larger ones. When they were done, I was amazed. They were better than normal chocolate chip cookies. I gave bunches of them away and wondered what made them so good. I guess it was the melting mint in dark chocolate.
Crazy how changing one tiny thing can totally tweak the flavor and taste of an ordinary treat. Just like a smile or a word of encouragement can alter the way someone is thinking. Be that chocolate chip in someone’s life today and add something savory to their world.
