Drooling aside, the books Patricia writes are all darn good reading. Many lines are quoteworthy. The characters, paranormal or not, are real. Each situation, even in her other worlds, exist today.
A scene in 'Dragon's Blood' (I think it is that book) haunts me. The main character is talking to the older tough titled warrior woman he wants to wed. She is trying to convince him she's not what he needs. He responds with a time when he found his younger brother in a suicidal frame of mind and tells her he needs a wife who will take him down if he EVER treated one of theirs in such a fashion. It was a situation you might read about today. Bullies and strength. Mercy, for all her toughness, buried the remains of a sentient weapon under some flowers. Something most of us do with creatures close to us. Her brother, well, this sort of coins what he might be! 'He belched with more sound and fury than a 13 year old boy with a roomful of girls to impress." I could swear I know this guy personally!
Almost every time I read one of her books, I find myself staying up late until it is finished. Even if I have already read it! They are word candy and you cannot stop with just one chapter. I promise.
There is a super good chance Patricia and the guy who does the maps for her books, Michael, might come to town to visit. I sincerely hope so and I PRAY I am not in Alaska when they arrive! (Michael really should come and see his sister, who lives here and most undoubtedly misses him.)
