This story starts on Midwinter Eve and goes through the 12 Days of Christmas (which are NOT before Christmas, but after). The main character, Will, is from a long line of persons of magic and he is the last. At 11, on his birthday, he begins to come into his power. He is also looking for some symbols, a Seeker, if you will. Once the signs are found and turned to the Light, the Light will enjoy a power greater than it has had in years.
A cataclysmic story between Light and Dark, it isn't a safe story. I've always been fascinated by the rhythm of words and phrasings found in the old tales of European mythology. Herne is a prominent character. He, too, is between Light and Dark and is a part of the choices Will must make as he learns who he was born to become.
A book I highly recommend to anyone who enjoys a battle between good and evil. A battle told well and can stand alone in the series by Ms. Cooper.
