In the 80's a movie was made about a boy with disfigurements. I think it was called 'Mask'. I never forgot the powerful story about the young man who people loved in spite of what he looked like. Wonder is a similar story. The boy in this novel is young. A 5th grader. The book takes place in one year of his life and the lives of those he touches. He is an ordinary boy inside, yet outside he scares people because of his looks. His ability to be himself changes those around him. Changes even those he's been closest to for his entire life. His trials and triumphs are humbling and exciting. You realise no one is what they seem and anyone is more than they are. Including you, as the reader.
“Here’s what I think: the only reason I’m not ordinary is that no one else sees me that way.” Wonder by RJ Palacio
