I love flowers. I love to have them in my kitchen window where the sunshine hits them almost any season. They light up the rooms where they share their scent and bloom. Flowers with scent intoxicate me! They have color, shape, and delicious smells. (OK, there are some that are nasty, but not the ones I grow and pick!) Some are even delicious when you nibble them.
I adore carnations the best of all cut flowers. They seem to last forever in a vase and for the penny pincher who resides in me, I rather like this! I love how many colors they come in and they are great fun to play with. You can spray them with glitter spray, put their stems in food coloring and watch the flowers change hues, and you can thread them on strings of dental floss to make necklaces.
For growing, I adore perennials. Bulbs I can stick in the ground and let them be, plants that come back year after year. Picky bulbs irritate me, but I will plant some for fun. I like certain annuals. I can never get petunias to grow very well and someday I'm going to get cosmos on stems larger than the ones pictured here! I like lilacs and bushes that grow flowers. Oddly, I do NOT like roses. Cultivated roses are a waste of time, the ones I have in my yard are old fashioned ones that tend to grow wild.
I have herbs and bulbs in my yard from other people, I keep flowers that remind me of friends, and I have memories growing in my garden beds. To find your way into my heart, share with me some flowers.
I could prattle on for ages about these beautiful creations. I've always been a fan of Cicely Mary Barker, Thumbelina, and dandelions. So, tell me your favorite flower or pass me some starts and I'll cultivate you with soil, sun, and smiles.
