Recently, a friend said they sometimes thought like 'a dirty old man'. The comment made me giggle. Other phrases include having a 'mind in the gutter' or maybe someone has a 'dirty mind'. These particular idioms are usually joking in tone and tinged with a theme which might be deemed inappropriate.
The inappropriate often gravitates towards something sexual in nature. Many limericks, poetry, and old songs have idioms or plays on words harboring mixed messages. One of my favorites is ‘Sweet Violets.’ It always makes me laugh.
I'd rather delight in my own perceptions. It is too easy to misinterpret ideas others may find difficult. Unfortunately, I am in the world and the world is a harsh place for anything of a different kind.
Gutters often carry trash away as the street is cleansed. The once full areas near the road become clear of debris. It is the same with personal paths in your life. Yet, once the ditches are clear of old theories, there is room to move. I invite you to join me on the verge, if you dare.
